Jammu & Kashmir’s Raj Bhavan renamed as Lok Bhavan.

The Jammu and Kashmir administration has officially renamed ‘Raj Bhavan’ as ‘Lok Bhavan’ following a directive from the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA).

An official notification from the Lieutenant Governor’s Secretariat stated that the change was made in pursuance of MHA communication Memo No 7/10/2025 (Part)-M&G dated November 25, 2025.

The notification, signed by Principal Secretary to the Lieutenant Governor Mandeep Kumar Bhandari, stated that the existing name ‘Raj Bhavan, Jammu and Kashmir’ has been changed to ‘Lok Bhavan, Jammu and Kashmir.’

The order stated that the institution shall henceforth be referred to only as Lok Bhavan, and all future correspondence, documentation, and official references must reflect the revised name.

The notification has come into effect immediately.

The communication has been circulated to senior constitutional authorities, including the offices of the President, Vice President, Prime Minister, Union Home Minister, and the Chief Ministers and Governors of various states and Union Territories.

The Administrative Department and relevant institutions in J&K have also been directed to update the name in official records and government websites.
