Recruitment agencies in Jammu and Kashmir have collected more than ₹113 crore in application and recruitment-related fees from candidates, while the amount refunded to applicants remains comparatively limited, according to figures presented by the government.
The figures have drawn attention to the financial burden placed on job aspirants, particularly in a region where government recruitment remains a major source of employment. Candidates often pay application fees while applying for various posts, with thousands of applicants competing for a relatively small number of vacancies.
The issue of refunds becomes particularly significant when recruitment processes are cancelled, postponed, withdrawn, or affected by administrative and legal complications. Candidates and stakeholders have been seeking greater clarity on the circumstances under which recruitment fees are returned and the mechanism followed by recruiting agencies.
The figures also highlight the substantial amount of money generated through recruitment applications over the years. With a large number of young people appearing for government examinations, calls for greater transparency, clear refund policies and timely communication with candidates are likely to remain an important part of the recruitment process.
