Rajouri, January 3: The Indian Army on Saturday launched a community radio station in the Keri sector near the Line of Control (LoC) in the Doongi block of Rajouri district, aimed at improving communication and outreach with local residents.
The radio station has been set up to share information on social welfare schemes, education, and health, while also providing a platform to showcase local voices and culture in the border areas.
Deputy Commissioner Rajouri, Abhishek Sharma, said, “A community radio station serves as a local source of both entertainment and information. It also helps the administration stay connected with the people.”
Residents welcomed the initiative, calling it a positive step toward community development and improved connectivity in Rajouri’s border belt.
In another significant development for education in the Pir Panjal region of Jammu and Kashmir, a dedicated civil services coaching centre, “The Officers’ IAS/JKAS Coaching Institute,” was inaugurated in Rajouri.
The institute aims to empower aspiring candidates from Rajouri, Poonch, and neighbouring border areas by offering high-quality coaching for civil services, JKAS, and other competitive exams, addressing a gap where many local students previously had limited access.
Director and Founder of the institute, Preeti Sharma, said the initiative is focused on supporting bright students from the region who have potential but lack resources and platforms.
“This initiative is for talented students, especially from Rajouri and Poonch, who have great potential but limited opportunities,” she told ANI at the launch.
Local youth expressed optimism about the institute’s impact. Aspirant Tahir Nazir called the opening a transformative opportunity, noting that students who previously had to travel long distances for preparation now have access to top-quality faculty locally.
“It is a great initiative by the Officers’ IAS/JKAS Coaching Institute. Students who would normally go to Jammu or Delhi now have a local option, which also helps those who cannot afford to travel,” he said. (Agencies)
