TEHRAN: A spokesperson for Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), Hossein Mohebbi, on Tuesday called US President Donald Trump a “big liar”, accusing Washington of misleading the American public over Iran’s nuclear programme and the situation surrounding the Strait of Hormuz.
Mohebbi said the United States knows that Iran is not seeking nuclear weapons and argued that Washington’s concerns are instead linked to Iran’s regional influence. He also challenged US claims that Iran has lost much of its leverage over the strategic Strait of Hormuz.
The remarks come amid continuing tensions between Tehran and Washington, with both sides exchanging strong statements over Iran’s nuclear programme, energy supplies and military operations in the region.
