New York, March 27: Iran has formally alerted the United Nations regarding media reports claiming that the United States and Israel are planning to assassinate senior Iranian officials, including Parliament Speaker Mohammad Baqer Ghalibaf and Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi, according to Press TV.

Iran’s Ambassador and Permanent Representative to the UN, Amir Saeed Iravani, expressed deep concern over the alleged assassination plots in an official letter on Thursday addressed to UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres and the President of the Security Council.

“I draw the immediate attention of Your Excellency and the members of the Security Council to media reports indicating that the United States and the Israeli regime have identified high-ranking officials of the Islamic Republic of Iran — including the Speaker of the Islamic Consultative Assembly, Mr. Mohammad Baqer Ghalibaf, and the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mr. Seyed Abbas Araghchi — as assassination targets. Any suspension of such plans appears to be merely temporary,” he said.

According to Press TV, the ambassador highlighted that these reports suggest a concrete operational framework aimed at targeting Iran’s highest political officials.

“Such a policy represents a serious violation of the peremptory rules of international law. The conditional nature of the alleged ‘suspension’ confirms that the threat remains real, deliberate, and ongoing,” Iravani stated.

He condemned any attempt to assassinate high-ranking officials of a sovereign UN member state as a blatant violation of the UN Charter and international human rights law, warning that such attacks would undermine the foundations of peaceful international relations. Iran described any normalization of these assassination plans as a destructive, biased policy amounting to state terrorism, setting a dangerous precedent and posing a serious threat to international peace and security.

Press TV also reported that Iravani submitted separate letters of protest to the United Nations against Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Kuwait, and the United Arab Emirates for allegedly allowing their territory and airspace to be used by the US and Israel to carry out attacks on Iranian soil.

“Considering the international responsibility of states for permitting their territory to be used for acts of aggression against a third state, the Islamic Republic of Iran has lodged strong and firm protests against these illegal actions,” he said.

He called on the countries to prevent any further use of their territories against Iran and emphasized that, while respecting their sovereignty, Tehran reserves its legitimate right to take all necessary measures — including exercising its inherent right of self-defense — to protect its sovereignty, territorial integrity, and political independence.

These developments come as the US-Israel-Iran conflict enters its fourth week. Earlier, US President Donald Trump signaled a temporary pause in operations against Iran, granting a 10-day window until April 6 following Iran’s request for a seven-day pause on strikes targeting its energy infrastructure. Despite this, US-Israel operations continue.

Meanwhile, the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) announced the launch of the 83rd wave of Operation True Promise 4 early Friday, targeting key American and Israeli military installations in the region using advanced missiles and drones. (Agency)
