Arshdeep Singh, the left-arm seamer who has emerged as a death-overs specialist, credits his success to consistent self-improvement and constructive self-criticism. The 26-year-old, playing for Punjab Kings in the IPL, has made a name for himself with crucial wickets, including those of Sai Sudharsan and Sherfane Rutherford in his team’s 11-run win over Gujarat Titans earlier this season.
In an interview with JioHotstar, Arshdeep spoke about his growth as a player: “The key to my development is improving by 1% to 1.5% after every game, regardless of whether the performance was good or bad. I believe that the biggest room in the world is the room for improvement. So, I always engage in constructive self-criticism and aim to enhance my skills, even if it’s just by half a percent.”
Arshdeep, who has taken 78 wickets in 66 IPL matches and 99 wickets in 63 T20 Internationals for India, expressed optimism about his team’s future under the leadership of Shreyas Iyer. “I’ve played under Shreyas’s captaincy before, and he has always supported his players and allowed them to express themselves freely. His approach remains the same; he doesn’t impose strict instructions but encourages us to trust our skills and play for the team,” Arshdeep shared.
The fast bowler emphasized his willingness to step up in challenging situations, saying, “I enjoy taking on responsibility when the team is under pressure, whether it’s stopping runs or taking wickets. When the team trusts me in those critical moments, it’s fulfilling. I focus on doing my best and not feeling the pressure.”
With an eye on breaking Punjab Kings’ IPL title drought, Arshdeep added, “I truly admire Shreyas’s mindset, and as players, we will do our best to help the team win back-to-back titles.”
Despite the setbacks, Arshdeep remains focused, ensuring that each opportunity is used to help the team succeed.
