Amit Shah Reviews Development, Security Situation During J&K Visit
Srinagar, April 8:
Union Home Minister Amit Shah chaired two high-level meetings in Srinagar on Tuesday to review the progress of ongoing development projects and assess the prevailing security situation in Jammu and Kashmir.
Shah, who wrapped up his three-day visit to the Union Territory, chaired the development review meeting at Raj Bhawan. According to officials, the meeting was attended by Lieutenant-Governor Manoj Sinha, former Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, senior officials from the Union Home Ministry, and top brass of the J&K administration.
The development-focused session, which lasted around two hours, was followed by a detailed security review meeting spanning two-and-a-half hours. While Abdullah was part of the development discussions, he was not present during the security meeting. Top officials from the police, Army, and other security agencies participated in the security deliberations.
The Home Minister lauded the efforts of security forces in maintaining peace in the region and instructed them to intensify surveillance and vigil.
As part of his visit, Shah met with leaders from the BJP and its allies, including JD(U), and engaged with local stakeholders.
Upon his arrival in Srinagar on Monday evening, Shah paid a visit to the family of Kirti Chakra awardee Deputy Superintendent of Police (DySP) Humayun Muzammil Bhat, who was martyred in an anti-terror operation in 2023. He spent around 20 minutes with the officer’s father, retired IGP Ghulam Hassan Bhat, expressing his condolences and appreciation for the family’s sacrifice.
DySP Bhat was among four security personnel who lost their lives during a fierce encounter with terrorists in the dense forests of Gadool village in Kokernag, Anantnag district, in September last year.
Security was heightened across the Kashmir Valley during Shah’s visit, with heavy deployment of armed personnel to ensure a peaceful environment.
