In Samba, 19-year-old Sunny Kumar from Prayagraj, Uttar Pradesh, and 19-year-old Joginder Kumar from Bilaspur, Chhattisgarh—both Class-12 students—were killed when a school bus collided with their motorcycle near Sarore Adda around 2:40 pm. The bus driver fled the scene immediately after the accident. Both students, whose parents work in the Bari Brahmana Industrial Estate, were en route to school when the incident occurred. Authorities said eyewitnesses reported that the bike was coming from the wrong side, and a manhunt for the bus driver is underway.

In Rajouri district, tragedy struck in the remote Khawas area of Kotranka Sub-Division between 1:00 am and 2:00 am. A Mahindra XUV-300, carrying Baljit Singh, his wife Lalita Devi, and their two-year-old son Krish, skidded off a slippery road due to heavy rain and rolled down a 300-foot gorge. Local residents, with the help of Army and police personnel, rescued the occupants and shifted them to Government Hospital, Khawas. Lalita Devi and her son were declared dead, while Baljit Singh, critically injured, was referred to GMC Jammu for advanced treatment.

Following the accident, relatives of the deceased raised suspicions of foul play, claiming the incident may have been staged to look like an accident. Police assured that all angles are being investigated thoroughly. Post-mortem examinations were conducted at GMC Rajouri, and the bodies were handed over to the family for last rites. A case has been registered, and the investigation is ongoing. (Agencies)
