Waheed Para Criticizes Coalition Over KAS Transfers, Questions Silence on August 5
Srinagar: Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) leader and MLA from Pulwama, Waheed Para, on Friday launched a scathing attack on the ruling coalition in Jammu and Kashmir, accusing them of prioritizing administrative issues over constitutional concerns.
In a sharp post on social media platform X, Para questioned the unity of 50 MLAs over the recent JKAS transfers while highlighting their silence on the abrogation of Article 370 on August 5, 2019.
“A party in J&K that once appointed its own Sadri Reyasat and Prime Minister is now fighting over Tehsildar appointments, not rights. Goalposts aren’t just shifting—they’ve hit rock bottom,” Para wrote.
He further criticized the political leadership for allegedly surrendering and normalizing the developments post-August 5, rather than resisting them.
“50 MLAs unite, not for resisting August 5, but for KAS transfers. Focus on symptoms only, not on August 5? You started by surrendering and normalizing August 5, expecting them to facilitate you because you facilitated them. If only you’d taken a stand, appointed your own Advocate General, nominated 5 MLAs, and never compromised on the 370 resolution, transfers would have been on your platter,” Para added.
Taking aim at what he termed as “symbolic politics,” the PDP leader said the ruling alliance failed to stand for critical issues, including July 13 and the recent Waqf Bill.
“You refused to stand for 13 July, and the Waqf Bill was just empty rhetoric. Now, the same cabinet that justified these bureaucrats during a month-long assembly session is complaining about them,” he said.
Waheed Para’s remarks come amid rising tensions between the elected representatives and the LG administration following the mass transfer of JKAS officers, and amid broader debates around political accountability and constitutional responsibilities in the region.
