GUWAHATI, Feb 20: Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi Vadra on Friday criticised Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma for targeting Assam Congress president Gaurav Gogoi over alleged Pakistan links, saying dragging his family and children into the controversy amounts to “wrong politics”.

After paying homage to late singer Zubeen Garg at his cremation ground ‘Zubeen Khetra’ in Sonapur on the outskirts of Guwahati, Vadra said the artiste was “above politics” and had spread a message of love throughout his life.

Responding to questions about Sarma’s repeated attacks on Gogoi, she said there are two kinds of leaders in politics — those who practice positive politics and those who rely on polarisation. “Gaurav Gogoi believes in the politics of love,” she said.

Vadra described Gogoi as a positive leader who wants to bring constructive change in politics, adding that the people of Assam can see through the attacks. “Targeting Gaurav and his family is wrong politics. No one should drag a political leader’s family and children into such allegations,” she said.

She further stated that instead of engaging in such controversies, the Chief Minister should focus on issues concerning the youth and women of the state, particularly employment and rising corruption.

Speaking about her visit to ‘Zubeen Khetra’, Vadra clarified that she had gone to pay her respects and not to politicise the occasion. “Zubeen Garg was above politics. His cremation ground should remain a sacred place and not be used for political purposes,” she added. (Agency )
