Doda, January 28, 2026:
Doda Police seized 61 bottles/quarters of illicit liquor and apprehended one person during a traffic checking operation conducted at Zero Morh, Phagsoo, on NHW-244.
A written docket in this regard was submitted by PSI Ankush Bharti at Police Station Thathri. During routine checking, a person riding a Bullet motorcycle bearing registration number JK06C-4284, coming from Doda towards Thathri, was signalled to stop. However, the rider attempted to flee and was immediately chased and apprehended by the naka party.

Upon search, two bags containing illicit liquor were recovered, including JK Special Whisky — three bottles (750 ml each), 18 quarters (250 ml each) and 40 quarters (180 ml each), taking the total recovery to 61 bottles/quarters.
During enquiry, the accused was identified as Vimal Kumar, son of Kuldeep Singh, resident of Nandna, Tehsil Phagsoo. He failed to produce any valid permit or licence for possession of the liquor on the spot. Preliminary investigation revealed that the liquor had been illegally procured and was being transported for sale.
Accordingly, FIR No. 10/2026 under Section 48(a) of the Excise Act has been registered at Police Station Thathri, and further investigation is underway.
Meanwhile, Doda Police reiterated their firm commitment to curbing the menace of illicit liquor in the district and appealed to the general public to cooperate with the police and share information regarding such illegal activities.
