Director FCS&CA Kashmir reviews PDS functioning in Baramulla, stresses timely ration distribution

BARAMULLA, MAY 07: Director Food, Civil Supplies & Consumer Affairs (FCS&CA) Kashmir, Nazim Zia Khan, accompanied by Joint Director FCS&CA Kashmir Shaheena Khan, today conducted a comprehensive review of the functioning of the department in Baramulla with focus on strengthening Public Distribution System (PDS) service delivery and ensuring effective implementation of welfare schemes.

The meeting was attended by Assistant Director FCS&CA Baramulla Sheikh Tariq, Tehsil Supply Officers and Smart-PDS operators of the department.

During the meeting, the Director was apprised of various achievements and developmental initiatives undertaken by the department in the district. Detailed discussions were held regarding distribution of essential commodities under the Public Distribution System, implementation of departmental schemes, stock position, grievance redressal mechanisms, beneficiary coverage and measures aimed at enhancing transparency, accountability and efficiency in service delivery.

The Director was informed about the initiatives being undertaken to further strengthen the Public Distribution System and improve service delivery mechanisms across the district through improved infrastructure. Operational challenges concerning ration distribution and consumer services were also discussed during the meeting.

While interacting with officers and officials, the Director stressed the importance of maintaining efficiency, accountability and transparency in the functioning of the department. He directed the concerned officers to ensure timely and hassle-free distribution of food grains and other essential commodities to all eligible beneficiaries.

He further instructed the officers to ensure completion of the ongoing three-month “One-Go” ration sale for April to June 2026 well before Eid-ul-Azha so that beneficiaries do not face any inconvenience during the festive occasion.

During the meeting, it was informed that against the total allocation of 1,72,128.32 quintals of rice and 6,603.45 quintals of atta for District Baramulla for the three-month period, 1,25,217.80 quintals of rice and 4,761.35 quintals of atta have already been lifted and distributed among beneficiaries, accounting for nearly 72 percent distribution.

The Director directed officials to complete lifting and distribution of the remaining food grains within the next ten days ahead of Eid. He also issued directions for expeditious completion of 100 percent e-KYC verification of beneficiaries to ensure transparency and accuracy in the database.

Later, the Director visited the newly constructed Baramulla Ration Granary, completed at an estimated cost of Rs 1.19 crore, and highlighted its importance in augmenting storage capacity and ensuring efficient ration storage management in the district.
