Jammu May 19, 2026: Director of Food, Civil Supplies & Consumer Affairs (FCS&CA), Jammu, Rajesh Kumar Shavan (JKAS) led a comprehensive inspection drive of several flour and oil mills at Gangyal to assess quality standards, hygiene, packaging, stock position and adherence to prescribed norms under the Public Distribution System (PDS).

The inspection covered flour mills engaged in grinding wheat into Atta for distribution through the PDS, including Upkar Flour Mill, Mahajan Flour Mill, Jammu Flour Mill, National Flour Mill and Bhagwati Flour Mill.
During the inspection, the Director reviewed the grinding process, sanitation measures, stock management and timely dispatch of Atta to departmental stores for distribution among beneficiaries. Stressing the need for transparency and efficiency in the supply chain, he emphasized that quality food grains and Atta should reach consumers without disruption.
He instructed concerned officials and mill operators to ensure proper stacking of wheat and Atta stocks, adopt effective pest-control measures and strictly follow departmental guidelines and quality standards.
During random weight checks at Upkar Flour Mill and Jammu Flour Mill, some Atta bags were found underweight. Taking serious note of the discrepancies, the Director issued on-the-spot directions for immediate corrective measures and warned of strict action in case of future violations. Action has also been ordered against the concerned FCS&CA supervisor.
On the consumer protection front, the Director also inspected JK Oil Mill at Gangyal to assess quality control measures, packaging and labelling practices. During a random inspection of packaged containers, certain weight variations were reportedly found which did not conform to prescribed standards.
The Director ordered that the observations be referred to the concerned authorities in the Legal Metrology Department for further action and follow-up.
He further stressed maintaining hygiene and quality standards in the production process to ensure consumers receive safe and quality edible oil products at affordable rates.
Reaffirming its commitment towards safeguarding consumer interests and ensuring the smooth functioning of the Public Distribution System, the department directed its officers to conduct regular inspections and strict monitoring to prevent adulteration, irregularities and unfair trade practices across Jammu Division.
