SHOPIAN, MAY 07: Deputy Commissioner Shopian, Shishir Gupta, today chaired a comprehensive review meeting regarding the ongoing activities under the 100 Day Nasha Mukt Jammu & Kashmir Abhiyaan and issued strict instructions to all concerned departments for intensifying awareness and outreach programmes across the district.
During the meeting, the Deputy Commissioner stressed that the menace of drug abuse poses a serious threat to society and called for a coordinated, mission-mode approach involving every stakeholder at the grassroots level. He directed all departments to ensure visible and result-oriented interventions in every village, Panchayat and educational institution of the district.
The DC emphasized active participation of youth volunteers in every Mohalla and Panchayat and said awareness activities must reach every household through sustained community engagement.
He further instructed the concerned departments to ensure active involvement of Mahila Panchayats, civil society members, traders, market associations and community representatives in spreading awareness regarding the harmful effects of substance abuse and strengthening community-level outreach across the district.
The Revenue Department was directed to mobilize Lambardars and Chowkidars for extensive awareness campaigns in villages, while Anganwadi Workers were told to strengthen door-to-door educational and awareness activities at the grassroots level.
Highlighting the role of educational institutions in combating drug abuse, the DC instructed the Education Department to conduct daily awareness programmes in schools and ensure regular student participation in anti-drug activities.
The DC also called for the organisation of class-wise sports competitions and youth engagement activities to channelise the energy of students towards constructive and positive pursuits.
Departments including MVD, Municipal Council, KPDCL, Health, Youth Services & Sports and other stakeholder departments were asked to further enhance their field-level involvement and ensure maximum public participation under the Abhiyaan.
Sub Divisional Magistrate Zainapora was directed to involve civil society members, religious leaders and local representatives to strengthen awareness campaigns and community outreach mechanisms at the grassroots level.
During the meeting, DSWO Shopian, who is also the District Nodal Officer for the Nasha Mukt Jammu and Kashmir Abhiyaan, highlighted the importance of proper documentation and timely uploading of activities on the NMBA portal.
He urged all departments to upload only relevant and verified data related to awareness programmes and field activities to ensure accuracy, accountability and effective monitoring of the campaign progress.
The meeting was attended by SSP Shopian Mushtaq Ahmad Chaudhary, ADDC Shopian Dr. Nasir Ahmad Lone, ADC Shopian Dr. Zakir Hussain Faaz, GM DIC, ACD, ACR, SDM Zainapora, CEO, CAO, Tehsildars, BDOs and other district and sectoral officers.
