BANDIPORA, MAY 15: Deputy Commissioner Indu Kanwal Chib on Thursday chaired a review meeting to assess preparedness for implementation of the Solid Waste Management Rules 2026 in Bandipora district.
During the meeting, detailed deliberations were held regarding effective implementation of the Solid Waste Management Rules in compliance with directions issued by the Supreme Court of India. Various measures aimed at strengthening waste management systems across urban and rural areas of the district were discussed.
The Deputy Commissioner stressed strict adherence to Supreme Court directions regarding segregation of waste at source and directed all Block Development Officers and Executive Officers to ensure effective implementation in their respective jurisdictions.
The meeting also discussed issues related to bulk waste generators, awareness campaigns, timely waste collection and establishment and functioning of Material Recovery Facilities (MRFs). Emphasis was laid on proper transportation, management and scientific disposal of solid waste.
Indu Kanwal Chib directed officers to intensify public awareness campaigns regarding source segregation, responsible waste disposal and reduction in the use of non-biodegradable materials. She stressed the importance of coordinated efforts among all stakeholders to achieve sustainable waste management practices across the district.
The meeting further reviewed Supreme Court directions regarding constitution of Special Cells for monitoring implementation of the Solid Waste Management Rules, conduct of inspections, preparation of periodic progress reports and strengthening enforcement mechanisms.
Among others, Additional District Development Commissioner Bandipora, Assistant Commissioner Panchayat, CEO Municipal Committee Bandipora, EO Municipal Committee Hajin, Block Development Officer Bandipora and other concerned officers attended the meeting.
