Crime Branch (Economic Offences Wing) Jammu has filed a chargesheet before the competent court against Puneet Rasutra, son of Late Sham Lal Rasutra and a resident of Rehari, Jammu, in connection with an alleged multi-crore cheating and forgery case involving forged Army documents and fraudulent bank loans.
According to officials, the case pertains to FIR No. 23/2019 registered under Sections 420, 471 and 201 of the Ranbir Penal Code (RPC) on the complaint of Munish Bhatia, a resident of Canal Road, Jammu.
The complainant alleged that the accused induced him and his brother to mortgage their property as collateral security for obtaining bank loans by falsely claiming that he had secured an Army contract worth nearly ₹16 crore. To support the claim, the accused allegedly produced a forged supply order purportedly issued by the 107 Engineer Regiment, C/o 99 APO, which was subsequently used to obtain an additional overdraft facility of ₹4 crore from the J&K Bank’s Trikuta Nagar Branch.
During the investigation, Crime Branch (EOW) Jammu established that the purported Army supply order was fake and forged. Verification with the concerned Army authorities confirmed that no such work order had ever been issued by the unit.
Investigators further found that the complainant and his brother allegedly suffered losses of around ₹10 crore and were compelled to clear the outstanding liabilities themselves to secure the release of their mortgaged property.
The probe also revealed that the accused, acting in furtherance of a criminal conspiracy, allegedly used forged and fabricated documents to fraudulently obtain substantial credit facilities, causing significant wrongful loss to both the complainant and the bank. Based on the evidence collected during the investigation, the Crime Branch has now filed the chargesheet before the competent court for judicial determination.
Senior Superintendent of Police, Crime Branch (EOW) Jammu, Faisal Qureshi, appealed to the public to promptly report similar cases of financial fraud. He said timely information from citizens would assist investigating agencies in identifying offenders and ensuring that those responsible are brought to justice.
