Srinagar, December 13: Cold weather prevailed across Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh on Saturday, with the Zojila Pass recording the lowest temperature at minus 17 degrees Celsius. Early morning heavy fog also engulfed many parts of the Valley, disrupting transportation and prompting officials to urge drivers to exercise caution.
In the Kashmir Valley, Srinagar recorded a minimum of minus 2.9°C, while the Srinagar airport settled at minus 4.0°C. Other areas included Qazigund at minus 1.6°C, Pahalgam minus 2.8°C, Kupwara minus 2.4°C, Kokernag 0.1°C, and Gulmarg 1.6°C. Sub-zero temperatures were also recorded in Pampore (minus 2.5°C), Awantipora (minus 3.6°C), Budgam (minus 3.1°C), Anantnag (minus 2.5°C), Baramulla (minus 3.2°C), Bandipora (minus 2.1°C), Pulwama (minus 4.2°C), and Shopian (minus 3.7°C). Kulgam stood at 0.1°C, Ganderbal at minus 1.8°C, Sonamarg at minus 0.3°C, and Zethan Rafiabad at minus 3.1°C.
In the Jammu region, temperatures were relatively higher. Jammu city recorded 10.3°C, Jammu airport 10.9°C, Katra 10.2°C, Kathua and Batote 8.0°C each, Reasi 8.0°C, Bhaderwah 3.6°C, Banihal 3.8°C, Udhampur 3.4°C, Rajouri 3.8°C, Ramban and Samba 5.9°C each, Kishtwar 7.8°C, and Doda 7.3°C.
In Ladakh, Leh recorded minus 5.6°C, Kargil minus 5.2°C, and Nubra Valley minus 5.7°C.
Meteorological officials warned that cold conditions are expected to continue in the higher reaches, while plains are likely to experience chilly nights over the coming days. (Agencies)
