CM-Omar & Dr.Farooq Abdullah Join Union Minister Kiren Rijiju at Tulip Garden Amid Waqf Bill Row
Srinagar, April 7: In a significant political moment, National Conference leaders Omar Abdullah and Dr. Farooq Abdullah were seen alongside Union Minister for Minority Affairs Kiren Rijiju during his visit to the iconic Tulip Garden in Srinagar today.
Rijiju, who recently tabled the contentious Waqf Bill in Parliament, shared a cordial interaction with the Abdullahs during the public visit. His presence in Kashmir comes at a time when the bill has stirred debate across various sections, especially among political and religious groups in Jammu and Kashmir.
Interestingly, while the National Conference leadership was seen accompanying the Union Minister, several NC MLAs have simultaneously demanded a detailed discussion on the Waqf Bill in the Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly, terming it a matter of public concern and regional autonomy.
The juxtaposition of political camaraderie and legislative opposition has raised eyebrows in political circles, with many questioning the party’s stance on the bill and its broader implications for Waqf properties in the Union Territory.
The Waqf Bill, presented just days ago in Parliament, aims to bring reforms to the management and administration of Waqf properties across the country, but has faced criticism from regional parties for allegedly centralizing control and bypassing local religious bodies.
As the Tulip Garden continues to draw tourists and dignitaries alike, today’s visit has added a fresh layer to the ongoing discourse around the Waqf Bill in J&K.
