Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Tuesday welcomed the announcement of direct Jammu–Srinagar train services beginning March 1, calling it a historic milestone for connectivity and integration in Jammu and Kashmir.
He said the launch of direct rail connectivity between Jammu and Srinagar fulfils a long-standing demand of the people and represents a major step toward improved mobility, economic growth and regional integration. According to the Chief Minister, the enhanced rail link will offer a dependable, affordable and all-weather transport option, benefiting commuters, traders, students and tourists.
Expressing gratitude, he thanked Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw and the Northern Railway for their sustained efforts in making the long-awaited project a reality.
He added that the direct train service will further strengthen internal connectivity across Jammu and Kashmir, boost economic activity through smoother movement of people and goods, and create fresh opportunities for growth and development in the region. (Agency)
