Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah departed from his Srinagar residence on Saturday to visit Ramban district and assess the situation following last week’s cloudburst. This marks his second visit to the affected area, with his first visit having taken place on April 22.

The region has faced extensive damage due to continuous rains, hailstorms, and landslides, resulting in the death of at least three people, including two children, after a house collapsed in Bagahana village.

Restoration work commenced on April 22 after the cloudburst, which also damaged a temple and several vehicles.

Speaking to ANI, Imtiyaz Ahmed, Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) of Gool, reported that flash floods had damaged 37 houses and one temple.
“Although there has been significant property loss, no casualties have been reported due to the latest incident. Some cattle have also gone missing,” he added.

The SDM mentioned that a complete damage assessment is underway, and necessary aid—including medicine and food—is being provided as part of rehabilitation efforts.

Earlier, Chief Minister Abdullah, accompanied by the Deputy Commissioner of Ramban and senior civil and police officials, traveled by road from Srinagar to Marog, one of the worst-affected villages.

Demonstrating his government’s concern, Abdullah trekked several kilometers on foot through rough terrain to reach Kela Morh, where the cloudburst triggered devastating flash floods.

During his visit, the Chief Minister interacted with local residents and district officials, receiving detailed briefings on the extent of the destruction and the progress of rescue and relief operations.

Officials informed him that clearance work is being carried out at full speed, with teams from the Public Works Department (PWD), Border Roads Organisation (BRO), disaster response units, police forces, volunteers, and locals working tirelessly to remove mudslides, clear debris, and restore normalcy.
