JAMMU, Apr 15: In a significant milestone for Jammu and Kashmir cricket, Chitra Singh Jamwal and Ananaya Sharma have been selected for the prestigious BCCI Centre of Excellence (CoE) U-23 Women’s High Performance Camp, set to take place in Bengaluru from April 21 to May 15, 2025.
Chitra, a promising batting all-rounder, has caught the attention of national selectors with her consistent performances in the Women’s U-23 One-Day Trophy, amassing 270 runs, including a vital 65 against Madhya Pradesh in the quarter-final and an outstanding century against Goa. She also represented India Team-C in the Senior Women’s One-Day Challenger Trophy earlier this year and boasts an impressive record of six career centuries.
Ananaya Sharma, a right-arm wrist spinner, earned her spot in the camp after emerging as J&K’s top wicket-taker in all formats – Senior Women’s T20, Senior One-Day, and U-23 One-Day Trophies. She claimed 7 wickets in 5 matches in the Senior Women’s T20 Trophy (Average: 14.42, Economy: 5.05, Rank: 34) and 12 wickets in 8 matches in the Senior One-Day Trophy (Average: 19.16, Economy: 3.90, Rank: 31 in India). In the U-23 Women’s One-Day Trophy, she took 10 wickets in 5 matches, ranking 15th during the league phase and 24th after the knockouts. Ananaya was also selected as a Net Bowler for Mumbai Indians in WPL 2024 and featured in the Senior Women’s Challenger Trophy.
This selection marks a momentous achievement for both players and highlights Jammu and Kashmir’s growing prominence in women’s cricket.
