Union Cabinet Approves Extension of Atal Pension Yojana Till 2030-31
New Delhi, Jan 21: The Union Cabinet on Wednesday approved the continuation of the government’s flagship Atal Pension Yojana (APY) up to the financial year 2030-31, along with extended funding support for promotional, developmental, and gap-funding activities.
Launched on May 9, 2015, APY aims to provide old-age income security to workers in the unorganised sector. As of January 19, 2026, over 8.66 crore subscribers have enrolled under the scheme.
The government will continue supporting awareness campaigns, capacity-building programs, and other initiatives to expand outreach among unorganised workers, according to an official release following the Cabinet meeting chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
APY offers a guaranteed minimum pension of Rs 1,000 to Rs 5,000 per month starting at age 60, depending on the contributions made by subscribers.( Agencies)
