Syed Aqib Hussain, a criminal and constitutional lawyer and author from Jammu & Kashmir, has earned admission to the prestigious PhD programme at the Symbiosis Centre for Advanced Legal Studies and Research (SCALSAR)—a premier legal research think tank under the Symbiosis Centre for Research & Innovation (SCRI) at Symbiosis International University (SIU). The programme is hosted at Symbiosis Law School (SLS) Pune, consistently ranked among India’s top five law institutes.
Aqib cleared the highly competitive entrance test, which selects only a limited number of candidates globally, and subsequently qualified a rigorous interview conducted by an eminent panel comprising Deans, Directors, and senior faculty members from National Law Universities (NLUs) and Symbiosis Law School Pune. He holds an LL.M. in Criminal Law and Cyber Security and has previously served as the elected President and Cultural Secretary of The Law School, University of Jammu.
Following his induction at SIU Lavale, Aqib has commenced his PhD coursework at SLS Pune. His doctoral research, titled *“Indo-Pak Cyber & Autonomous Warfare: Decoding the Efficacy of Indian Modus Operandi vis-à-vis the Potency of the Regulatory Regime and Strategic Clique—Intersecting IHL,”* delves into the evolving landscape of AI-driven warfare, cross-border cyber operations, and international humanitarian law.
Aqib’s selection marks a significant academic milestone, placing him at the forefront of one of the most strategically vital research areas of the modern era. His work is being pursued under the mentorship of Prof. (Dr.) Shashikala Gurpur—Jean Monnet Chair Professor, Fulbright Scholar, Director SLS Pune, Dean Faculty of Law SIU, and former Member of the Law Commission of India.
