Srinagar, March 23, 2026: In a significant verdict reaffirming the fight against corruption, the Special Judge, Anti-Corruption Court Srinagar, Dr. Tasleem Arief Ganie, convicted Mohd Akram Khan, son of Jalaluddin Khan, a resident of Aripal Tral in Pulwama district and presently residing at Jawahar Nagar, Srinagar, in a bribery case registered under FIR No. 20 of 2010 at PS VOK, now ACB.
The accused, who was serving as Tehsildar at the time, was found guilty under Sections 5(2) read with 5(1)(d) of the J&K Prevention of Corruption Act and Section 161 RPC for demanding and accepting a bribe of ₹20,000 from the complainant on the pretext of settling a property dispute in his favour.
Following a complaint filed on May 13, 2010, a trap was laid by the Vigilance Organisation Kashmir (now Anti-Corruption Bureau), during which the accused was caught red-handed while accepting the bribe.
After a thorough investigation, the chargesheet was filed on October 22, 2010, and the case proceeded for trial before the court. On March 23, 2026, the court delivered its judgment, sentencing the accused to one year of simple imprisonment along with a fine of ₹20,000 under the relevant provisions of the J&K Prevention of Corruption Act and RPC.
The conviction marks another milestone in the Anti-Corruption Bureau’s ongoing efforts to ensure transparency and accountability in public service. (Agency)
