Nagoya, September 26: Indian squash players Anahat Singh and Abhay Singh advanced to the singles finals at the 2026 Asian Games in Aichi-Nagoya, securing India’s presence in both the women’s and men’s gold-medal matches.
The 18-year-old Anahat produced a stunning comeback against Japan’s world No. 6 Satomi Watanabe, recovering from a two-game deficit to win the semifinal 3-2. She prevailed 9-11, 11-13, 12-10, 11-6, 11-3 in a thrilling contest.
Abhay Singh followed with a commanding straight-games victory over Pakistan’s Muhammad Irfan, winning 11-3, 12-10, 11-6 to book his place in the men’s singles final.
The results mean India will have two individual squash finalists for the first time in Asian Games history, giving the country an opportunity to add further medals to its campaign in Nagoya.
Anahat’s victory was particularly notable after she had lost the opening two games against Watanabe. The Indian youngster turned the match around by taking the next three games and completing one of the biggest wins of her career.
