Jammu, Feb 06: Union Home Minister Amit Shah will visit the International Border (IB), launch welfare schemes for Border Security Force (BSF) personnel, and chair a high-level security review meeting on Friday as part of his ongoing three-day visit to Jammu and Kashmir.
Amit Shah’s arrival was delayed on Thursday evening, and he reached Jammu around 11 pm. He was received at the airport by Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha and later proceeded to Lok Bhawan, where he stayed overnight.
Officials said the Home Minister will visit the International Border in the Hiranagar sector of Kathua district and later review the security situation at a high-level meeting. Top officials of the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA), heads of paramilitary forces and intelligence agencies reached Jammu ahead of his arrival.
During his visit, Amit Shah will tour forward areas along the International Border, including the Gurnam and Bobiya Border Outposts in the Hiranagar sector, and inspect BSF arrangements to curb infiltration.
“He will e-inaugurate and lay the e-foundation stone of six welfare schemes for BSF personnel from the Bobiya border outpost and interact with BSF jawans. Some BSF posts and fencing damaged during the monsoon floods in August–September last year have been repaired. The Home Minister will take feedback from officers and jawans on the ground situation,” officials said.
After returning from the border visit, Amit Shah will chair a high-level security review meeting at Lok Bhawan.
“Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha, senior MHA officials, heads of paramilitary forces from New Delhi and J&K, intelligence agencies, Chief Secretary Atal Dulloo, Director General of Police Nalin Prabhat, and other senior officers will attend the meeting. The focus will be on the overall security situation, particularly ongoing anti-terror operations in the hilly areas of the Jammu region against foreign terrorists,” officials added.
Two days ago, joint security forces killed three Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM) terrorists—two in Basantgarh area of Udhampur district and one in Chatroo area of Kishtwar.
The Home Minister will also distribute compassionate appointment letters and meet families of martyrs at Lok Bhawan.
In addition, Amit Shah will chair a separate high-level meeting to review the development of Jammu and Kashmir. He is scheduled to return to New Delhi on Saturday afternoon.
The development review meeting will be attended by Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha, Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, and senior officers of the MHA and J&K civil administration.
Security has been intensified across the Jammu region ahead of the Home Minister’s visit.
Notably, Amit Shah had chaired a security review meeting on Jammu and Kashmir in New Delhi on January 8, where he directed a mission-mode approach to neutralise terrorists and ensure zero infiltration along the borders to restore lasting peace in the Union Territory.
Officials said the presence of Pakistani terrorists in the hilly districts of Kishtwar, Doda, Udhampur, Kathua, Poonch and Rajouri remains a major security concern, and the security strategy is being further fine-tuned to address the threat. (Agencies)
