JAMMU: Apni Party President Syed Mohammed Altaf Bukhari on Friday condemned the divisive agenda adopted by certain political parties, accusing them of communalising the merit-based selection of MBBS students at Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Institute of Medical Excellence (SMVDIME), Katra.
According to a press release, Bukhari chaired a meeting at the Apni Party Office in Jammu, attended by Provincial President (Jammu) S. Manjit Singh and other senior provincial leaders.
The meeting held a detailed discussion on the party’s organisational structure and issued directions for conducting public outreach programmes across Jammu Division. The leaders also reviewed the emerging political scenario in Jammu and Kashmir and strongly criticized elements attempting to disturb communal harmony.
Bukhari lauded the people for maintaining peace despite repeated provocations by those trying to instigate communal sentiments. He reiterated that the MBBS admissions at SMVDIME were made purely on a merit basis and condemned the efforts to give the process a communal colour.
Expressing concern over the blast near Lal Qila in New Delhi and the explosion at Nowgam Police Station, he extended solidarity with the victims who lost their lives in these incidents. He also expressed support for security forces working tirelessly to ensure safety and urged authorities to ensure that no innocent person is harassed during investigations.
Additionally, Bukhari criticised the National Conference government for failing to provide basic amenities and free electricity to people in both Jammu and Kashmir. He said the NC government misled the public with false promises for electoral gains and later failed to deliver on those commitments. (Agencies)
