Srinagar, October 16: Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah has sought appropriate action against senior IAS officer Kumar Rajeev Ranjan following allegations of verbal abuse directed at woman JKAS officer Beenish Wani during an official virtual meeting.
The controversy surfaced after a video from a Mission YUVA review meeting circulated on social media, allegedly showing the senior bureaucrat using inappropriate language and threatening the officer with suspension.
Reacting to the incident, Omar Abdullah described the alleged behaviour as “not in keeping with standards” expected of a senior civil servant. He said he had raised the matter with the Chief Secretary and stressed that the woman officer should not face any retaliatory action.
The incident has sparked criticism and demands for accountability and an impartial investigation. Meanwhile, the Labour and Employment Department has reportedly claimed that the viral video clips were selectively edited.
