New caller identification system aims to help Airtel, Jio, Vi and BSNL users identify incoming callers and reduce unknown-call confusion.
New Delhi: A major change in caller identification is expected from November 1, with mobile users potentially able to see callers’ registered names alongside their phone numbers.
The proposed Calling Name Presentation (CNAP) system is designed to display the name associated with a caller’s telecom registration, helping recipients identify incoming calls without relying entirely on third-party caller identification applications.
The system is expected to benefit subscribers of major telecom operators, including Reliance Jio, Bharti Airtel, Vodafone Idea (Vi) and BSNL.
The initiative aims to improve transparency in mobile communications and help users identify unfamiliar callers. However, the exact implementation schedule and availability across networks and devices remain subject to official confirmation.
According to the Department of Telecommunications’ October 13 directive, the service will initially apply to 4G and newer mobile networks. It will be enabled by default, without requiring users to register separately.
