Poonch, September 23: A public outreach and awareness programme was organised at Chhajla Baba Peer Haider Shah Ziyarat in Tehsil Mankote, bringing together local residents, senior citizens and prominent community members to raise awareness against drug abuse and activities that threaten peace and public order.
Addressing the gathering, SDPO Mendhar Touseef Ahmed urged people, particularly the youth, to stay away from drugs, unlawful activities and elements that could disturb peace and security in the border area.
He emphasised that combating drug abuse is a collective responsibility and called for greater cooperation among parents, teachers, community members, NGOs, civil administration and law-enforcement agencies.
The SDPO also highlighted the role of parents and teachers in identifying early warning signs among young people, including behavioural changes, irregular school attendance and harmful associations. He stressed the importance of timely counselling, emotional support and proper guidance.
The programme further focused on anti-militancy awareness, communal harmony, social responsibility and public cooperation. Youth were encouraged to engage in education, sports, skill development, employment opportunities and other constructive activities.
The event was attended by SHO Mendhar Inspector Mohd Bashir and In-Charge Chhajla Police Post Inspector Parveez Choudhary, besides police personnel and members of the local community.
Senior citizens and prominent residents appreciated the police initiative and assured cooperation with the police and civil administration in preventing drug-related activities and promoting peace and awareness.
The programme concluded with an appeal for coordinated efforts by families, educational institutions, social organisations, community leaders, NGOs, police and the administration to build a drug-free, peaceful and secure society.
