Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) president Mehbooba Mufti will travel to Iran to attend the funeral of Ayatollah Ali Khamenei after receiving an official invitation from Iranian authorities.
The invitation was extended by Mohseen Qummi, Director of the International Relations Department at the Office of the Supreme Leader of the Islamic Republic of Iran, inviting Mehbooba to participate in the state funeral as a distinguished guest representing India.
Calling the invitation a “once-in-a-lifetime opportunity,” Mehbooba Mufti said she was honoured to receive it and would travel to Tehran to pay her final respects.
According to the invitation, the funeral ceremonies will be held in Tehran from July 3 to July 6, with commemorative events at the Imam Khomeini Grand Mosalla Complex, followed by the funeral procession on the concluding day. The letter described Mehbooba’s presence as a symbol of the longstanding friendship and mutual respect between India and Iran.(Agencies)
