In a dramatic form of protest, BJP councillor Kishan Nayak in Agra marked his birthday by standing inside a filthy, waterlogged drain and cutting a cake to highlight alleged civic negligence in his area.
The incident took place in the Nagla Dhani area of New Vijay Nagar Colony, where locals claim a drain has remained unclean despite repeated complaints to the municipal authorities. According to residents, several requests were made for its cleaning, but no effective action was taken.
In protest, the councillor stepped into the drain and carried out a symbolic birthday celebration. A table covered with a white cloth was placed inside the dirty water, where the cake was cut amid slogans and clapping from supporters gathered at the spot.
The video of the incident shows people putting a garland around the councillor’s neck and placing a pink turban on his head as slogans of support echoed in the area. Some slogans also included expressions of solidarity with the protest, while others chanted in support of the councillor’s demands.
The video has since gone viral on social media, drawing widespread attention and sparking discussions over civic conditions and municipal response in the area.
Locals allege that despite repeated assurances from the municipal corporation regarding pre-monsoon drain cleaning, the issue remains unresolved, leading to frustration among residents.
