The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) Navy has warned vessels to strictly follow Iran-approved routes through the Strait of Hormuz, stating that any movement outside designated corridors may face enforcement action, according to Iranian media reports.

As reported by Press TV, the IRGC Navy said certain authorities had announced a new maritime transit route through the strategic waterway without consulting Tehran, calling it unacceptable and unsafe.

The IRGC stated that only routes officially designated by Iran are permitted for passage through the strait. It further warned that vessels deviating from these corridors would be considered in violation and could face action.

The force also said ships must maintain communication with Iranian authorities via designated channels during transit, adding that coordination with the IRGC Navy is mandatory for safe passage through the Strait of Hormuz.

The statement comes amid reports that Oman, in coordination with the International Maritime Organization (IMO), has introduced a temporary shipping corridor aimed at ensuring smoother and fee-free navigation through the strait. Tehran, however, has objected to any unilateral routing decisions.

Earlier, US President Donald Trump commented that any attempt to impose shipping or transit fees in the Strait of Hormuz would be unacceptable, calling it a potential “game changer” during ongoing diplomatic discussions with Iran.

Meanwhile, Iranian officials accused the United States of continued interventionism in the region, saying lasting peace cannot be achieved as long as external military influence persists.

The situation adds further tension to an already sensitive geopolitical and maritime corridor that plays a crucial role in global energy supply.(ANI)
