Srinagar, Jun 20: The Jammu and Kashmir government has suspended a cardiologist from Government Medical College (GMC) Anantnag following allegations of irregularities in cardiac procedures conducted under the PMJAY-SEHAT health scheme.
Health and Medical Education Minister Sakina Itoo said on Saturday that the suspension of Dr. Syed Maqbool was issued after a departmental inquiry, which was initiated based on complaints and a report submitted by a SKIMS panel.
The inquiry reportedly pointed to procedural irregularities, wrongful claims under the PMJAY-SEHAT scheme, and other alleged misconduct, and recommended strict disciplinary action.
However, the minister clarified that the doctor will be given full opportunity to present his side before any final decision is taken. She said the government is committed to a fair and transparent investigation process.
“The doctor should also get a chance to clear his position. Such incidents are unfortunate. The profession of a doctor is noble, and medical professionals must never compromise with the lives of patients,” Itoo said while addressing reporters in Kulgam.
Dr. Maqbool has denied all allegations and submitted a detailed response to the authorities, calling the charges baseless.
Officials said the government will continue the probe and take the matter to its logical conclusion, ensuring accountability while maintaining due process.
The case has drawn attention in medical and public circles, with several members of the medical fraternity calling for a fair and impartial investigation.
