Jammu/Kishtwar May 20, 2026: Continuing its drive against alleged bovine smuggling in the Marwah sub-division, Marwah Police foiled another attempt and seized three cattle during a naka checking operation at Hanzal area on Tuesday Evening.
According to official information, Police Station Marwah registered FIR No. 04/2026 under Section 223 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and Section 11 of the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (PCA) Act in connection with the case.
Police said that the cattle were allegedly being transported from Dachan towards Anantnag and were intercepted at Naka Point Hanzal during routine checking. During the operation, police seized three cattle from the possession of Mohd Arif, son of Ab Aziz Ganoo, resident of Astangam Marwah, and Gh Mohd, son of Gh Rasool, resident of Upper Chanjer Marwah.
The seized cattle have been taken into custody at Police Station Marwah and further legal proceedings under relevant sections have been initiated.
The investigation of the case has been entrusted to HC Mohd Sadiq No. 21/KTR for further inquiry and investigation into the matter.
Notably, this is the second such action by Marwah Police within two days. On Monday, police had registered FIR No. 03/2026 and seized seven cattle in the Nilsoo area while acting against another alleged bovine smuggling attempt.
The operation was led by SHO Marwah Lal Hussain and his team, under the supervision of SDPO Marwah Ravinder Singh and overall supervision of SSP Kishtwar Naresh Singh.
Police officials stated that sustained naka checking and enforcement operations are being carried out across the area to curb unlawful transportation and other illegal activities in the district.
