Kathua, May 14: Divisional Commissioner Jammu Ramesh Kumar today conducted a whirlwind tour of Kathua district to inspect major infrastructure projects and review key administrative initiatives, including the Nasha Mukt Jammu & Kashmir Abhiyan (NMJKA) and preparations for Shri Amarnath Ji Yatra (SANJY)-2026.
During his visit, the Divisional Commissioner inspected ongoing works on the Delhi–Amritsar–Katra Expressway and reviewed construction progress on multiple stretches. He held discussions with executing agencies, stressing timely completion while maintaining quality standards.
He also reviewed reconstruction works on the Sahar and Ravi bridges, which were damaged in last year’s floods, and directed concerned departments to expedite restoration to reduce inconvenience to commuters and transporters.
The Div Com further inspected the Lakhanpur Corridor and assessed beautification, traffic management, and civic improvement works ahead of the upcoming pilgrimage season. He emphasized coordinated efforts among departments to ensure smooth traffic flow, sanitation, illumination, and improved facilities for visitors at the gateway to Jammu and Kashmir.
Reviewing SANJY-2026 preparedness, he directed the administration to ensure adequate arrangements for pilgrims, including drinking water, sanitation, healthcare, security, and traffic management, urging timely completion of all works.
The Divisional Commissioner also chaired a separate meeting to review progress under the Nasha Mukt Jammu & Kashmir Abhiyan in Kathua. Deputy Commissioner Kathua Rajesh Sharma briefed him on ongoing awareness and enforcement measures, stating that around 7,300 activities have been conducted under the 100-day campaign.

The Div Com stressed strict monitoring of addiction treatment dropouts, early identification of vulnerable students, and greater involvement of teachers as mentors in guiding youth away from drugs.
He also called for intensified vigil at border areas to curb drug trafficking and recommended mapping of vulnerable zones with community participation through Mahila Nigrani Samitis, Lambardars, and Chowkidars.
He directed wide publicity of helplines, including 01922-238796, 1800-212-2729, and Tele-MANAS 14446, to ensure timely assistance to those affected.
Additionally, he reviewed progress in digitization of revenue records and disposal of ownership cases of West Pakistan Refugees (WPRs) and displaced persons, instructing officials to ensure accuracy and timely completion.
Senior police, tax, and highway officials accompanied the Divisional Commissioner during the visit.
