Two Killed, One Injured in Accident at Kwar Power Project in Kishtwar

Jammu, Sunday, March 1, 2026: Two persons were killed while another was injured in a tragic accident at the under-construction Kwar Power Project in Nagsini tehsil of Kishtwar district on Sunday.

Officials said a vehicle engaged in the power project, bearing registration number JK20B-1428, met with an accident, as a result of which two persons sustained injuries, while the driver plunged into the Chenab River.

Immediately after the accident, labourers working at the project site along with police personnel rushed to the spot and shifted the injured to District Hospital Kishtwar. They were later referred to Government Medical College Doda for advanced treatment. However, one of the injured, identified as Kalam Din, a resident of West Bengal, succumbed to his injuries during treatment.

The other injured person, identified as Ashok Kumar, a resident of Reasi, is undergoing treatment and his condition is stated to be stable.

Meanwhile, a joint team of police, SDRF, and project labourers launched a search operation to trace the missing driver. After hectic efforts, the rescue team recovered the body of the missing person, later identified as Rinku Singh, a resident of Reasi. He was working as a compressor operator at the project and was driving the ill-fated vehicle.

Officials said Kalam Din was working as a supervisor at the project, while the injured Ashok Kumar was employed as a helper. Police have taken cognizance of the incident and further investigation is underway.
