Lieutenant Governor Hails Budget 2026-27 as Path to $5 Trillion Economy
Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha on Thursday described the Budget 2026-27 as pragmatic and forward-looking, highlighting that it will prioritize economic acceleration, develop future-ready infrastructure, sustain growth momentum, and chart a path toward the $5 trillion economy milestone within a few years. He added that the budget’s comprehensive fiscal strategy balances growth ambitions with social welfare.
Expressing gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman for initiatives to develop ecologically sustainable mountain trails in the J&K UT, the Lieutenant Governor said the project will generate fresh employment opportunities and give a renewed boost to the tourism sector.
“Budget 2026-27 emphasizes accelerating economic expansion, strengthening infrastructure, and advancing manufacturing capabilities across seven strategic sectors, while maintaining a strong commitment to welfare. It is expected to transform emerging industries, accelerate progress in semiconductors through India Semiconductor Mission (ISM) 2.0, and reduce India’s dependence on other countries for rare earth elements through specialized rare earth zones,” the Lieutenant Governor said.
He further observed that with Artificial Intelligence, job creation, and service sector enhancement taking center stage, India’s competitive edge will strengthen across all economic domains. The progressive financial blueprint, he noted, lays the foundation for comprehensive sectoral growth and global prominence.
“Budget 2026-27 charts the path to a $5 trillion economy within a few years and reflects our ambitious vision to achieve developed economy status in less than two decades. The budget also promises unprecedented empowerment for youth, women, and farmers. With manufacturing, infrastructure, MSMEs, healthcare, urban development, electronics, and supply networks forming the core of this strategy, we aim to expand domestic production and generate substantial employment opportunities,” the Lieutenant Governor added.
