All high-tech e-buses operating in Jammu came to a halt on Wednesday as drivers went on strike, protesting the non-fulfilment of long-standing demands over the past two years since the buses began operating in Jammu & Kashmir.

Currently, 90 e-buses are operational across various routes in Jammu, while 10 buses are undergoing maintenance. As a result of the strike, no e-buses ran on Wednesday, causing significant inconvenience to commuters.

Late in the evening, an agreement was reached between the drivers’ union and Jammu Smart City Limited (JSCL), paving the way for the resumption of services from Thursday.

The striking drivers raised several concerns, including the lack of salary increments over the past two years and deductions for any damage to buses. “Our salaries are deducted if any damage occurs to the buses,” said Ravinder Pal Singh, president of the e-buses union. Drivers also complained about transfers, stating that many Jammu-based drivers were being moved to Srinagar without valid reasons.

Addressing the issue, JSCL CEO Devansh Yadav said, “We held detailed discussions with the striking drivers and have agreed to consider their genuine demands. From tomorrow, all e-buses will operate across various routes in Jammu. While permanent postings are beyond our authority, we have assured the drivers that their legitimate concerns will be addressed.”

With the agreement in place, e-bus services are set to resume, restoring much-needed transportation for commuters in Jammu.  (Agencies)
