Karnal, May 06: Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha and senior Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Tuesday met the family of Navy officer Lt. Vinay Narwal, who lost his life in the recent terrorist attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir.

Earlier, on Sunday, Suman Saini, wife of Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini, attended a ‘Shraddhanjali Sabha’ held in honour of Lt. Narwal at the family’s residence in Karnal. Speaking to the media, she expressed deep sorrow over the tragic loss. “This is a heartbreaking day. The family has lost a beloved son. I pray for their strength. The April 22 terror attack is utterly condemnable. The entire nation stands in mourning,” she said.

Following the incident, Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini announced a compensation of ₹50 lakh and a government job for a member of Lt. Narwal’s family.

Lt. Narwal, a native of Karnal, Haryana, was accorded a solemn farewell last month, with his father Rajesh Narwal and maternal uncle performing the last rites in the presence of hundreds of mourners.

His father, while speaking to reporters, expressed faith in the Union government’s commitment to justice and described the loss as “unbearable and irreplaceable.”

The young Navy officer had recently been married, with his wedding reception held on April 16. He was posted in Kochi and had travelled to Jammu and Kashmir on leave, accompanied by his wife, when terrorists opened fire in Pahalgam.

During the military funeral, his widow paid an emotional tribute, remembering him as a courageous man who lived with honour and left behind an inspiring legacy.

The April 22 terror attack in Pahalgam claimed the lives of 26 individuals, including Lt. Vinay Narwal, in what has been widely condemned as a heinous act against innocent civilians and personnel.
