Ten schools across Chandigarh and neighbouring Mohali received bomb threat calls on Tuesday, prompting immediate security checks and suspension of classes as a precautionary measure. Students were sent home, and police teams were deployed to secure the campuses.

“The safety of our students, staff and families is our highest priority, and this decision has been taken out of an abundance of caution,” a message issued by one of the schools said, adding that updates regarding reopening would be shared after authorities complete their assessment.

The threats in Chandigarh and Mohali come a day after several schools in Delhi received bomb threats via email, triggering evacuations and extensive security checks. According to authorities in the national capital, police personnel, bomb disposal squads, dog squads, and fire and ambulance services were deployed at the affected campuses.

School principals in Delhi said that similar threats over the past year have largely turned out to be hoaxes, but strict safety protocols are followed on each occasion. (Agencies)
