Woman rents Airbnb villa, refuses to leave and asks 80 lakhs from landlord after living rent-free for 2 years

‘Guest from hell’: Imagine renting out your place to anyone using airbnb but later they refuse to leave and when you reach out to court, they not only ask you to pay the guest for leaving, instead allow them to stay ‘as long as they want’.

This is exactly what happened when Elizabeth Hirschhorn rented a long-term stay at Sascha Jovanovic’s Brentwood (Los Angeles) guest home in September 2021 for six months at a rate of $105 a night, with fees bringing the total to $20,793.

But her Airbnb stay ended in April 2022, and Hirschhorn has been living there rent-free ever since.

Aleksandar Jovanovic, the landlord and an internationally celebrated periodontist said “I can never go into my home and know that I’m safe when a potentially hostile person is living there,” the landlord told The Los Angeles Times. “I’m thinking about it at all times.”

A court judge recently even went to an extent to rule that the squatter can stay for ‘as long as she likes.’

Jovanovic is struggling to kick the tenant out because his guest house was not supposed to be rented. He rented the house without a certificate of occupancy or proper registration.

The overstay of an extended Airbnb rental at 1235 North Tigertail Road has now become the subject of competing lawsuits. The woman has refused to move out unless Jovanovic pays her a relocation fee of $100,000, according to a settlement offer.
