A woman from the Takibal Reban area of Zainapora, Shopian, died under suspicious circumstances on Thursday, prompting the police to initiate proceedings into the incident.
A senior police officer said that Police Station Zainapora received information that a 27-year-old woman, identified as Urfi Jan, wife of Showkat Ahmad Lone and a resident of Takibal Reban, was brought to Yaripora Hospital in an unconscious and suspicious condition.
Doctors at the hospital subsequently declared her brought dead, the officer said.
In view of the circumstances surrounding her death, the police have initiated proceedings under Section 194 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS), the officer added.
