According to a public notice issued by the Office of the Executive Magistrate 1st Class and Tehsildar Kokernag, the digitized Jamabandi will be read out publicly on Saturday, January 17, 2026, at 10:30 AM at the Government Middle School, Takiya Ahmad Shah.

All landholders, cultivators, and interested residents of the village have been advised to attend the programme to verify their land ownership details and revenue entries. Officials said that public reading of Jamabandi has emerged as a key component of the UT administration’s land reforms, ensuring that records prepared through digitization reflect ground realities and lawful ownership.

The notice further clarifies that any discrepancy, objection, or grievance related to land records can be raised on the spot during the programme. Such objections will be recorded and addressed as per established rules. To facilitate transparent grievance redressal, the concerned Patwari has been directed to remain present at the venue and maintain a Grievance Register in the prescribed format for recording public representations.

UT-Level Governance Reform:
Officials in the Revenue Department stated that the public reading of digitized Jamabandi is being carried out uniformly across Jammu and Kashmir, covering villages in all districts. The exercise aims to eliminate long-standing errors, duplication, and unauthorized entries in land records, while strengthening public trust in the revenue administration.

Importance and Motive Behind the Government’s Move:
The primary objective of this initiative is to create error-free, tamper-proof, and digitally authenticated land records, which are crucial for governance, development planning, dispute resolution, and delivery of citizen services. By involving the public directly in the verification process, the government seeks to prevent future land disputes, reduce litigation, curb land grabbing, and ensure rightful ownership. The move also supports ease of availing bank loans, compensation, inheritance transfers, and welfare benefits linked with land records.

Officials emphasized that early verification of records at the village level will save citizens from legal and administrative complications at later stages. Special emphasis has been laid on participation of elderly persons, women landholders, and absentee owners through authorized representatives, ensuring that no genuine claim is left unheard.

The initiative reflects the UT administration’s commitment to good governance, digital transformation, and people-centric reforms, aligning land record management with transparency and accountability standards.

The notice has been issued for wide publicity and strict compliance, with copies forwarded to the Deputy Commissioner Anantnag, Assistant Commissioner (Revenue) Anantnag, Sub-Divisional Magistrate Kokernag, Naib Tehsildar, Girdawar Qanoongo, and the concerned Patwari for information and necessary action.
