US Loses Nearly $2 Billion in Military Equipment Amid Attacks on Iran

The United States has lost nearly $2 billion worth of military equipment in the first four days of its operations against Iran, according to estimates and data compiled by Anadolu Agency.

The largest loss came from a US AN/FPS-132 early warning radar system at Al Udeid Air Base in Qatar, valued at $1.1 billion, which was struck by an Iranian missile on Saturday. Qatar confirmed the radar was hit and damaged.

On Sunday, three F-15E Strike Eagles were destroyed in a friendly fire incident caused by Kuwaiti air defenses. All six aircrew survived, but the planes were lost, with replacement costs estimated at $282 million.

During Iran’s initial retaliatory strike on Saturday, the US Navy’s Fifth Fleet headquarters in Manama, Bahrain, was targeted. The attack destroyed two satellite communications terminals and several large buildings. Open-source intelligence identified the terminals as AN/GSC-52Bs, with deployment and installation costs bringing their value to approximately $20 million.

Iran also claimed to have destroyed the AN/TPY-2 radar component of the THAAD Anti-Ballistic Missile System at Al-Ruwais Industrial City in the UAE. Satellite imagery suggests the radar was hit, with an estimated value of $500 million.

Combined losses from these attacks are estimated at $1.902 billion in US military assets in the region.

Attacks on US Bases and Diplomatic Missions

Since the US and Israel began strikes on Iran, Tehran has targeted at least seven US military sites across the Middle East:

  • US Fifth Fleet Headquarters, Bahrain

  • Camp Arifjan, Kuwait

  • Ali Al Salem Air Base, Kuwait

  • Camp Buehring, Kuwait

  • Erbil Base, Iraq

  • Jebel Ali Port, UAE

  • Al-Udeid Air Base, Qatar

Images from Kuwait showed collapsed rooftops at Ali Al Salem Air Base following an Iranian strike. Six US service members were killed at Camp Arifjan, and drone footage captured a drone exploding inside Camp Buehring.

At Erbil International Airport, satellite images confirmed repeated Iranian strikes over Saturday and Sunday. Smoke and flames were visible, and by Sunday, four structures in one section of the base had been damaged or destroyed, with fires continuing into Monday.

Jebel Ali Port in Dubai, though not an official US base, showed smoke rising from a large building in a US Navy recreational zone, according to satellite imagery.

Attacks on US Diplomatic Missions

US diplomatic sites were also targeted:

  • US Embassy, Riyadh, Saudi Arabia: Struck by two drones. The Saudi Defense Ministry reported limited fire and minor damage. Reports suggest the CIA Station inside the embassy compound was also hit.

  • US Embassy, Kuwait City: Targeted by drone and missile strikes. Smoke was reported, and the embassy was closed, with non-essential staff and families evacuated.

  • US Consulate, Dubai, UAE: A suspected Iranian drone hit a parking lot near the consulate, causing a small fire that was quickly contained. No major structural damage was reported.
