Unemployed man dies by suicide after incurring losses in stock market

Patna: Faced with losses in stock market, a 31-year-old unemployed man died allegedly by suicide at his house in Danapur’s Gola Road area on the fringes of Patna on Wednesday.

Rahul Kumar Singh, aka Bittu, was found hanging by his family members on the first floor of their house on Sri Ram Nagar Road No. 5.

Danapur station house officer (SHO) Prashant Kumar Bharadwaj said his younger sister, Preeti Singh, told them that the night before, Bittu had dinner around 9pm and went to sleep as usual.

“In the morning, when she went to check his room, he was not there. Everyone thought he might be on the first floor of the house.

At breakfast time, Preeti called his number, but he did not answer. Upon checking the first floor, they found him hanging by a cloth noose,” said Bharadwaj.

The body was recovered by police and sent for a postmortem examination at Danapur Sadar Hospital.Bharadwaj added that the family mentioned Bittu, who was also preparing for competitive exams, had been investing money in the stock market for the past few months.

“A few days ago, his father had deposited Rs 6 lakh in his bank account. When his cellphone, found near his body, was checked, it was discovered that his account balance was zero.

Due to losses in the stock market, the student may have died by suicide,” the SHO said.
