Two narcotics smugglers held with contraband in Awantipora: Police

In its continued crackdown on drug menace, Awantipora Police on Tuesday arrested two drug peddlers and seized contraband substances from their possession in South Kashmir.

A police spokesperson said that during a routine vehicle check at Panzgam Railway Crossing, a team from Police Post Reshipora intercepted a Tata Sumo (registration JK13A-7136) carrying two individuals. They were identified as Parvaiz Ahmad Hajam, son of Ab Rashid Hajam, a resident of Newa Pulwama, and Anees Mohammad, son of Gh Mohammad, from Karimabad.

“Upon searching the vehicle, officers recovered 130 grams of a Charas-like substance. Both individuals were taken into custody and the vehicle involved in the offence was seized,” the spokesperson added.

A case has been registered under FIR No. 106/2025 at Police Station Awantipora under relevant legal provisions, and further investigation is underway.

The police reiterated their commitment to eliminating drugs from the society and urged the public to support their efforts in creating a drug-free environment.
