Thousands of people in Odisha receive millions in their bank accounts from an ‘unknown source’

Imagine this: Suddenly, if hundreds of thousands get credited into your account, what would you do first? Obviously, you would run to the bank and withdraw all the money; or maybe go to the bank and ask who deposited the money in your account. A similar incident was reported in Odisha, where lakhs have been deposited to several people’s accounts from an unknown source.

While some of them managed to receive the deposited money, many returned home empty-handed as the bank authorities paused withdrawal temporarily in view of the large gathering of people and suspicious sources of the money.

According to reports, the account holders received messages on their mobile phones regarding the credit ranging from several thousands of rupees up to lakhs, following which they went to the bank in large numbers for withdrawal.

Not only the customers, but the bank authorities are in a quandary regarding the deposits in customers’ accounts.

“Initially, some of the customers withdrew money. Later, we suspected foul play as customers gathered in large numbers. After we came to know about the matter, withdrawal was suspended temporarily. Probe is on to ascertain the source of the money,” said an employee of the bank.

At present, customers are happy that money has come into their accounts. An investigation is still going on from the bank’s side, and soon it will be known how and why this money has been deposited in these accounts.

According to reports, Odisha Gramya Bank is a government bank that is very popular in Odisha. This bank has 549 branches in the country, with 155 ATMs and 2340 employees. According to the information given on the bank’s website, it has more than 55 lakh customers.
