Tharoor Hails ‘Operation Sindoor’ as Strategic and Morally Measured Response to Terror
NEW DELHI: Congress MP Shashi Tharoor on Thursday commended the Indian Armed Forces for the precise execution and thoughtful restraint displayed in Operation Sindoor, calling it a “well-calibrated, morally defensible” response to the Pahalgam terror attack.
Speaking in an interview, Tharoor said the operation—targeting terror bases deep inside Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir—was both necessary and strategic. “We could not allow Pakistani terrorists to think they can enter our country, kill innocent civilians, and face no consequences,” he said. “They needed to be punished—but in a way that shows our commitment to avoiding civilian harm.”
Tharoor praised the codename Sindoor for its symbolic messaging and highlighted that India’s strikes were carefully limited to UN-designated terror outfits like Lashkar-e-Taiba and Jaish-e-Mohammed. “We struck at night, ensuring minimal risk to civilians. Unlike terrorists, we don’t target innocents,” he said.
He emphasised that Indian forces deliberately avoided hitting military or government targets in Pakistan. “This shows we’re not seeking war. We’re showing strength, not aggression,” he said, adding that “the ball is now in Pakistan’s court.”
Reacting to Pakistan’s cross-border shelling in civilian areas following the operation, Tharoor said India has maintained restraint and responded only in self-defence. “We have shown that we’re responsible global citizens. If Pakistan continues to provoke, we’re ready—but we are not looking to escalate,” he asserted.
Operation Sindoor, launched on Wednesday, struck nine terror hubs, killing over 100 militants associated with LeT, JeM, and Hizbul Mujahideen, sources confirmed.
