Kishtwar, January 8, 2026: In a bid to strengthen security and ensure strict compliance with administrative directives, Police Station Kishtwar carried out a comprehensive tenant verification drive across various localities of Kishtwar town on Thursday. The drive was conducted as part of routine policing measures aimed at maintaining law and order and keeping a proper record of tenants residing in the district.
During the verification process, police found that certain house owners had rented out their premises without furnishing mandatory details of their tenants to the police, in violation of the notification issued by the District Magistrate, Kishtwar. Taking serious note of the lapse, the police registered two separate cases against the violators.
Accordingly, FIR No. 09/2026 and FIR No. 11/2026, both under Section 223 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), were registered at Police Station Kishtwar. The accused have been identified as Ghulam Mustafa, son of Abdul Latif, resident of Gurdiyaan, Kishtwar, and Abdul Kabeer, son of Mohd. Akbar Butt, resident of Umar Mohalla, Kishtwar.
Police officials stated that tenant verification is a crucial preventive measure to deter criminal activities and to ensure that unidentified or suspicious elements do not find shelter in residential areas. The District Administration has repeatedly directed property owners to inform the police about tenants and domestic helpers, failing which strict legal action is taken.
Investigation in both cases is underway. Police have reiterated their appeal to all house owners in Kishtwar district to strictly adhere to tenant verification norms and cooperate with law enforcement agencies in the larger interest of public safety and security.
